More weddings
Went to the pub last night. Mike and Catherine have decided to get married. While I am pleased about this in a general sort of way, it does mean that a) the pool of friends who are still single enough to want to go out and enjoy themselves, rather than just stay at home knitting each other cardigans and surveying the possibilites for tartan slippers, is diminishing rapidly, and b) I'm going to have to dip into my ever-decreasing finances yet again for another stag night and another wedding, as well as further wedding presents, cards and associated miscellany. Of course what really gets my goat is that, while all these people are getting married and settling down, I'm not. Tiny violins to the usual address.
What is perhaps more depressing is that the job market seems to be crumbling around me. I'm increasingly seeing graduate web dev jobs going for 12-14 grand. While I'm rather more experienced than that, and there do seem to be jobs around that still pay reasonable money for experienced staff, it's not a pleasant trend. Must get out of IT. It's not what it used to be. It's certainly not what it was when I decided to go into programming. I had all sorts of daft romantic notions when I was about 7. I blame Clive Sinclair.
On another note, I've started proofing for project gutenberg. It's actually quite well set up. I did my first page yesterday, and got a note from someone to tell me it was "PERFECT!!". I'm not sure the capitals and exclamation marks were entirely necessary, but I am proud of my little self. I'll do some more tonight. I could happily do that sort of thing for a living, particularly if there was some scope for editing too. If anyone out there wants to hire an anal-retentive grammar pedant, give me a shout.
