After watching this bugger spread across the internet like a virus (it's now listed on at least 5 script download sites I didn't submit it to), I've finally had conclusive proof that people are actually using it. Got a nice email from a chap looking to use it for a site he'd developed. He wanted to change it so it didn't allow comments (just a news page script, essentially), so I revised the index page for him and sent it through. Look Ma, I'm a real open source developer!
It's cold in the lab. Actually, it sort of has to be. The heat from a terahertz processor is just too much for even the most advanced cooling systems. So, instead, I have to sit here and freeze in the name of science.
The body on the slab is a young man. Telltale scars all over his body indicate a devotion to implant surgery that surprises even me. In the back of his neck there's a socket. It's a serial port. The implant beneath it connects to the medulla. This type of implant is very fashionable these days. A microprocessor - not the industrial kind, just a couple of gigahertz - manages the functions the medulla normally performs, meaning you can squeeze a little extra performance out of your nervous system. The heart beats faster, breathing is a little deeper, little things that add up to a performance boost.
I take the serial cable and plug it into the socket. The guy twitches slightly, just electrical signals briefly playing along the spinal cord. The monitor flickers, usually I get diagnostic info, which bit died, why, that sort of thing. The screen just reads "General Protection Fault: Please restart Windows".
