As for unusual artefacts, I love anything odd, especially if it's old and/or mystical. For instance, I still need to get myself one of those carved resin skulls that occasionally turn up on ebay, and I want a sword stick, a scrying glass and for somebody to produce a full, illustrated copy of the Voynich Manuscript. I think most of those qualify as "unusual" :)
