Today I am annoyed by...
People who think they know everything about a subject because they've read a tiny, hopelessly vague article on it. Our sysadmin isn't the sharpest tool in the box by a long way. He's pretty good with NT and with hardware, but anything outside his realm of expertise and he's hopelessly lost. That doesn't stop him talking about it though. He's just finished a long, rambling pontification on the virtues of python, all the while referring to it as "pythonscript", and patently not having the faintest clue what it actually is. Before that it was XML...
Don't get me wrong. I like the guy. I do. He's just the biggest liar in the known universe. His name is Paul, but we all call him Billy (Billy Liar, get it?).
At least once a day, he'll come over here to talk to me about something technical. It's so rare that he actually understands what he's talking about that it's a little frightening. He can recognise Tcl/Tk by sight now, which is another frustration. If he sees any of that on my screen he goes into raptures. He thinks it's some kind of clique thing we have together. Let me assure you, dear reader, it's not.
Just once I'd like to come into work and have a conversation with him that didn't end with me correcting virtually every statement he made.
