It seems Whistling Whale don't want my story. The very nice lady who told me so did give me about 3 pages worth of advice and stuff instead though, so that was nice. I think I'll pimp something else at them at some point. They seemed pretty cool, but were into proper paperback books and weren't geared up for picture books. I'll keep digging. I must write something else at some point too. I don't know what's up with me.

Very nice. Lots of advice and stuff. I hope I can do it justice. I'm thinking of doing something longer, in prose, to see how it turns out. I need a visit from the plot fairy first though.

A friend and I were musing, under the influence of a liver-threatening amount of alcohol, about the fact that Jimmy Saville and B.A. Baracas were both mighty stalwarts of the gold jewelry industry. Now, what might these titans of soft, yellow metal do if they became aware of each other's existence?

Picture the scene, if you will: Jimmy is seated, as ever, in his armchair, leaning endearingly into the camera and reading a crumpled note.

Jimmy: Dear Jim, I pity the fool...

... and so it went on. I believe the comment that they were never seen in the same room was also made, though the possibility that they might be one and the same was dismissed on the grounds that it was deeply silly.

Bum. Still, at least they read it, and might yet take something more suitable for them from you. Not a bad start, actually. (Jasper Fforde used to stick two pages together on his ms. so he could tell if the publisher had actually read it or not. They usually hadn't).

Incidentally, anybody sees the Plot Fairy, send her over here, please. Boy have I got work for her.
